Are you ready for a workout? Let’s play some trills together. But I’ll be honest, it’s difficult to define this one. Call it what you want, it’s really good to learn!!!
I’ll let the video speak for itself:
3 Stroke Trills
difficulty: intermediate to advanced
What?
This is a 3 stroke accent played on two notes with a stroke pattern of DOWN UP DOWN.
Why?
It creates rhythmic attacks and makes your playing sound dynamic.
Tips for success:
Practice, practice, practice. That’s really all there is to it. Don’t worry if you don’t get the notes right, get more finger strength and your intonation will correct itself in time.
If you can’t play quarter tones yet, then play E flat instead of E quarter flat and uses you 1st finger for E flat and your 3rd finger for F.
What’s Next?
Soon I’m going to show real tunes you may have heard before so tell me which piece you want to learn, and maybe it will show up here. And don’t forget to sign up to hear all about it!
Sallams…looking to purchase an oud..I live in the US, who is the best to get from? Arabian instruments seems to be the most reliable and quality. Thanks for the helpful videos and techniques you share
Salam,
I would recommend checking out http://www.mauriceoudshop.com. They are selling out of their Ouds fast. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos and techniques. Good luck, and let me know which Oud you buy and how you like it.
This is by far the best reference to Oud playing.
I wonder if this taqsim by the great Farid el Atrach can be tackled in the future:
